Father and Son Trips

Camp Kooch-i-ching can fulfill the dreams of many fathers who have wanted nothing more than to take a canoe trip with their son.  To paddle together, fish below the rapids or help one another across a portage trail is all within reach.  The overall experience will be an unforgettable one as each member of the trip will take part in an orientation, sleep in camper cabins, attend cruising school, enjoy island activities and games, and travel together on a 4 night canoe trip.

Whether or not a father or son has attended Kooch-i-ching makes no difference.  It is our hope to continue to expand our community by increasing participation in our summer program.

Spend a week in the woods with your son. Let him show you what he has learned at Kooch-i-ching, or learn together if you've never been to camp.

...Coming in to the trip, I wasn’t sure what to expect from the group or of myself dealing with a diverse set of backgrounds and a spectrum of father/son relationships. Looking back, I couldn’t be more delighted about how it turned out. Especially in your case, it was interesting to see Andrew help teach his dad the “Kooch way” of tripping. Thinking back to my adolescence, it’s never easy to help dad along, but I think the two of you made a great team and balanced each other out quite well.

In the end, Dennis, I think you became quite the Kooch tripper. Simultaneously, Andrew, I saw you mature to the next level and rise above focusing on your responsibilities and start to reach out and help others. You embraced the real essence of a trip by not just carrying your wannigan across portages and cleaning your bowl & spoon, but also took deliberate steps to make sure those around you were able to do the same...
