'A Different Summer' Tops Ogichi Charts

“S’mores ‘round a campfire are better than chores,” sings Alice Peacock-Haller in “A Different Summer,” which she wrote with four Ogichi campers during a virtual songwriting class this week. The class was among 11 virtual activities and events hosted by Ogichi staff women over the past week and a half.

Created in less than an hour, “A Different Summer” laments the loss of camp this year but ends with a hopeful “We’ll be back at Ogichi Daa Kwe again.”

“They knocked it out of the park,” Alice says of her co-writers, Isabel Arena, Silvie Birkerts, Lisa Burgess and Ava Manning. “All the girls enthusiastically contributed ideas and song lines and it was so fun seeing their faces.”

Lyrics

Summer is different this year

We’re not going to camp—did you hear?

We miss all our friends

But we’ll see them again next year…next year

We’ll try not to be bored

We’ll still make our own s’mores

Because s’mores ‘round a campfire are better than chores

We’ll write all our friends

And when this all ends

We’ll be back at Ogichi Daa Kwe again…again

This summer, I’m feeling so lazy

We’re all driving each other so crazy

Wearing masks out of doors

And deliveries from stores is weird…so weird

We’ll try not to be bored

We’ll still make our own s’mores

Because s’mores ‘round a campfire are better than chores

We’ll write all our friends

And when this all ends

We’ll be back at Ogichi Daa Kwe again…again

And we’ll be grateful for

Camp forever more

We’ll try not to be bored

We’ll still make our own s’mores

Because s’mores ‘round a campfire are better than chores

We’ll write all our friends

And when this all ends

We’ll be back at Ogichi Daa Kwe again…again
